King Street Hospitality Group’s latest concept is entering the final stretch of construction.
Plans for Stono’s Oyster Bar first emerged in July 2023. The Charleston Design Board approved the design in May 2024, and owner Mike Shuler told The Post and Courier the restaurant is on schedule for a spring 2027 opening.
The waterfront spot is along the Stono River at 2409 Maybank Hwy. on Johns Island, offering marsh views.
Designed by Architect Kevan Hoertdoerfer, Stono’s Oyster Bar will feature indoor and outdoor seating, a main-level bar and a wraparound deck. A rooftop dining area will include a full-service bar and a garden surrounding part of the rooftop.
True to its name, the restaurant will serve oysters alongside a variety of locally sourced Lowcountry seafood.
The outlet reported the restaurant will be boater-friendly with a casual, approachable atmosphere. About 60 complimentary boat slips will be available, allowing diners arriving by boat to dock while they eat.
