A gourmet popcorn spot out of Kannapolis is making its way to The District Exchange in Concord, the forthcoming retail hub slated to open this summer in July or August. Decadence Popcorn will take a 400-square-foot spot at the new retail center, joining other tenants already announced, including Barley Jean’s Bakery and Life is Sweet.

“We love the small-town feel. It’s pretty similar to the footprint of our current store, so when we saw it, it was a no-brainer,” owner Kim Jackson told What Now Charlotte. “It just fits the vibe of what we do. The collaboration it would bring with the local vendors and other stores going in there as well seemed to be a good fit. We just loved what they were doing downtown and wanted to be part of all that coming back. It seemed like a good opportunity, so we seized it.”

Expect to see fresh gourmet popcorn, made on-site and served warm. There will also be some other offerings, such as slushies.

Decadence Popcorn started in 2017 out of Jackson’s home, when she began shipping caramel and cheese popcorn across the U.S. Now, they have more than 30 flavors of handcrafted artisan popcorn. In addition to serving popcorn at their storefront, Decadence Popcorn makes event favors for celebrations, as well.

Jackson said their goal at their Concord location will be to bring freshness and excitement to downtown Concord alongside the other vendors joining The District Exchange.

“With our first store, we opened up in the middle of COVID, and it was almost like it was such a welcoming, needed situation,” Jackson said. “With Concord coming back, we really want to offer that to customers. It’s a ‘smiles’ business. When they come in, it’s a happy environment. We’re going to offer the best gourmet popcorn we can make.”
