Popular burger chain Whataburger is plowing forward with major plans for its long-anticipated expansion across the state.
It debuted in North Carolina in May with a Gastonia location and announced plans for expansion in the summer to several locations in and around Charlotte. It also announced plans for Triad locations, including one expected to open in late summer in Winston-Salem.
In the release, Whataburger detailed further plans for expansion in the Triad. In addition to the Winston-Salem spot, the chain will open at 2713 N Main St. in High Point in fall, according to the release.
Whataburger’s surge into North Carolina aligns with its 75th anniversary, which the brand has been celebrating throughout 2025. North Carolina is the 17th state for the Texas-based brand, which boasts well over 1,000 locations across the country.
In total, the burger chain will open 10 locations in North Carolina by the end of 2025. The locations will target the Charlotte and Triad markets.
I have lived in the Davidson Cty area all my life. I am 66 now and remember when I was a really little girl visiting my grandparents in High Point, stopping at What-a-burger on South Main Street for a meal. I remember being heartbroken when they closed. Also when I was young.
