After opening a barbecue restaurant in Canaryville, a local business owner is debuting a new location at River Oaks Center.
Tyris Bell, owner of Bell Heir’s, will debut his new kitchen at 96 River Oaks Center Drive. His last restaurant was at 704 W 47th Street in the city. Bell told What Now Chicago the new spot will open sometime next month.
For the menu, it will be virtually the same as his catering business. He specializes in Southern dishes, like the smoked BBQ rib tips and buttermilk fried chicken wings. A smoked brisket burger, smoked brisket mac n cheese and various pizzas are on the menu, available on the website.
Bell has years of experience in restaurants, including as the general manager of Luella’s Southern Kitchen in Irving Park. He takes inspiration from his family, including his great grandmother who developed the recipes.
“That is why my goal is that Bell Heir’s BBQ will rise above the ‘herd’ of Chicago barbecue joints and be considered one of the best,” Bell said in a statement on the website.
The new barbecue spot will be on the northwest side of the mall, close to Auntie Anne’s. Work on the kitchen is being done, and he is preparing meats to serve at the new location.
Bell is also organizing a fundraiser to open in the French Market downtown. For more information, visit his gofundme page.
