If you’re a fan of pastrami, hand-cut lox, and knishes, then you’ll want to follow the opening of Wicker Park’s newest Jewish deli, Helfeld’s. A father-and-daughter team, Mark Grutz and Emily Helfeld, will open Helfeld’s Delicatessen & Catering this winter at 1750 W. North Avenue in Wicker Park, reports Block Club Chicago.

The deli is the next chapter in the family’s story, shares a social media post from the eatery. Named for Helfeld’s grandfather who ran a Jewish deli on Chicago’s North Side after he came to the U.S. from Poland, Helfeld’s will serve Reuben sandwiches (four varieties!), matzo ball soup, and noodle kugel, as well as New York bagels sourced from New York Bagel & Bialy in Lincolnwood. Challah and rye bread will be available from Tel-Aviv Kosher Bakery in West Rogers Park, and Grutz’ wife Sally will craft salads and baked goods for the deli as well.

Grutz, who grew up working at Mort’s Deli, told Block Club Chicago the eatery will have a few tables and chairs, but the business will be primarily geared towards pick-up and take-out orders. Helfeld’s will also offer grocery staples, catering, and delivery.

Eater Chicago reports the deli will likely open by the end of this year.
