Big changes could be coming to the suburb’s downtown.
Big Grove Brewery is looking at their first space in the Prairie State at 180 N Smith Street in Palatine. Right now, the owners are hoping to buy the building from Durty Nellie’s Gastropub & Concert Club. As the project was just recently proposed, an opening date has not yet been announced.
Along with being a brewery, the space would serve food, per a report from The Daily Herald. At their Iowa taprooms, the food menu includes wings, burgers, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Beer options are extensive, ranging from light lagers to imperial IPAs.
“Award-winning, fresh craft beer from the heart of the midwest” is the slogan on their Facebook page.
The original Big Grove Brewery debuted in 2013 in Solon, Iowa. From there, the team has expanded to Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Iowa City, Omaha, Nebraska, Prairie Village and has even opened a coffee shop in Omaha. When What Now Chicago reached out to the Big Grove Brewery team, no one was available for comment.
Dirty Nellie’s has been in Palatine since 1972, originally opening at 55 N Bothell Street. The restaurant then moved to N Smith Street in 2003, west of the longtime location. The whole building would be remodeled, and an expanded outdoor patio is also planned.
The space is near the intersection of W Colfax Street, just west of the Palatine Metra station. It is attached to Pan American Bank & Trust, with the roof of the restaurant above. Palatine’s downtown is also a short walk east of the building.
