The town off of Interstate 57 will soon have an option for Mexican coffee.
A new cafe concept called Encanto Coffee is being built at 869 W Jeffery Street on the south end of Kankakee. It comes from local Jessica Jaime, who has been planning the business for two years. Jaime told What Now Chicago she does not have an official opening date right now but is hoping to debut the shop in the summer or fall.
“With Encanto, we want to create more than just a coffee shop. We want to build a warm and welcoming place where people can gather, connect, and experience the richness of our Latin culture through coffee, homemade foods and delicious desserts,” says a recent post from the Encanto Facebook page.
Jaime said the menu will feature lattes, cafe de olla, teas, Mexican hot chocolate, refreshers and pastries like croissants. She wants to bring pastries that are authentic to Mexico, and a full menu has not been released.
From the most recent post, the walls are up and extensive work is being done on the interior. The space will have multiple rooms for brewing and socializing. As it is early in the buildout process, Jaime does not want to give an official opening timeline.
The cafe is under construction on the north side of W Jeffery Street, near a Dollar General. This is also just east of a Casey’s pizza location. Kankakee’s downtown is just northeast of the address.
Jaime will be updating the community on progress for the coffee shop on her Facebook and Instagram pages.
