Logan Square will soon welcome a complement to Meadowlark Hospitality’s Lardon, the all-day salumeria specializing in house-cured meats at 2200 N. California Avenue. Setting up shop next door at 2202 N. California will be Union, a beer bar serving up “’new American fare.’
Steve Lewis and Chris Thompson of Meadowlark Hospitality debuted Lardon last July, following the two-year long rehabilitation of the space in the 110-year old building at the corner of N. California and W. Palmer Street. Thompson’s charcuterie program at the all-day eatery takes a whole-animal approach, and meat is sourced from farmers and purveyors throughout the Midwest.
Union will be open only at night and, in the continued spirit of locally-sourced product, will have 24 local beers on tap, reports Block Club Chicago. A selection of whiskey and, on trend, biodynamic and boutique wines are also on the menu.
Thompson told the publication “dark and moody vibes” are part of the Union experience, as are exposed brick, dark wood tables, and a 25-foot-long bar.
The pandemic has pushed back plans a bit, and the bar’s Instagram page indicates Union was originally expected to open in January. According to Block Club Chicago, you can expect to be enjoying those local beers and/or brooding in the moody space by March.
