A new bar from the owner of Cheesie’s Pub & Grub is coming to Wrigleyville this July.
Owner Christopher Johnson recently put in a liquor license for 3477 N Clark Street. This is to be a bar/tavern called Home Away From Home, and it is meant to cater to baseball fans with its sports themes. He has had the idea for this bar since he moved to Wrigleyville.
“This project I’ve had in my back pocket for over a decade,” Johnson told What Now Chicago.
Along with the tavern, Johnson is also introducing a new Cheesie’s Pub & Grub location across the street at 3472 N Clark Street. The restaurant is known for their grilled cheese and other sandwiches like the caprese, and this would be their fifth location. He said they are going to be opening the restaurant in about two-and-a-half weeks.
Johnson has noticed while there are many Cubs fans walking around Wrigleyville, there are also away team fans. He wants to make sure all fans are welcomed by changing the menu to fit the cities that they visit from.
For the menu at the new Cheesie’s location, they will be bringing sandwiches from the former business Lucky’s Sandwiches which was at this address. At Home Away From Home, they will be running limited menus catered to teams that are playing the Cubs at Wrigley Field. For example, when the Cincinnati Reds are playing they would have a Skyline Chili option.
One of the features in the bar Johnson is excited about is an LED sky ceiling that will make visitors feel like they are at Wrigley field. Overall, he wants to evoke the feeling of being in the center of Chicago sports.
