The city’s Italian restaurant scene is continuing to grow this year.
A liquor license application was recently submitted for Osteria Gilberto, coming to 1224 W Webster Avenue. Owner Sergio Barbone did not want to release information about the restaurant at this time, other than the fact that it will be an Italian concept. He is aiming for a July opening date.
Barbone is also the owner of Bakehouse Chicago, with locations in Lakeview, Roscoe Village and Southport. The bakeries serve coffees, teas and pastries, as well as custom cakes. Barbone opened the first location in Roscoe Village at 2009 W Roscoe Street in 2022.
The Italian restaurant is being built at the corner of N Magnolia Avenue, a couple storefronts down from Floriole Cafe & Bakery. This is on the west side of Lincoln Park, and DePaul University’s main campus is just a block north. Other concepts on this side of the street include Sweet Mandy B’s Bakery and Old Pueblo Cantina.
As it gets closer to the opening, Barbone and the team will be creating social media pages to update the community on specifics like menu items and construction progress. What Now Chicago has reached out to Barbone for additional comment on the new concept.
