Tangled Roots Brewery and Restaurants is slated to open a new restaurant, Keg & Kernel, in the Cornerstone DeKalb apartment building in DeKalb, Ill. While details so far are scant, the craft brewery has shared on its Facebook page that it’s hiring for culinary and retail managers at the location, and a post from the City of DeKalb shows that signs are up in the building’s windows.
The Ottawa, Ill.-based restaurant group and brewery has opened or is in the process of opening five restaurants across the state. It takes pride in the “farm-to-foam” brewing process behind its beers, one of which — the Forty1-Eighty8 — is made from the Tangled’s own hops and barley crops. Its main brewery is in Ottawa.
Tangled Roots’ restaurant portfolio includes The Lone Buffalo at its brewery in Ottawa, where it serves pub fare and casual American cuisine; Lock & Mule in Lockport, the menu of which is comprised of dishes cooked on the restaurant’s wood-fired grill; and Hangar 2 in Glenview, which serves dishes from across the globe in homage to the city’s aviation history. In addition to Keg & Kernel, the restaurant group is in the process of opening The Rocket in La Salle. All the restaurants offer Tangled’s beer, with suggested pairings for nearly every menu item.
This is a developing story. What Now Chicago has reached out to Tangled Roots CEO, Keith Pearse, for comment, and will update this story with more details.
