The California-based restaurant The Italian Homemade Company has its eyes on Chicago, hoping to enter Illinois for the first time in Fulton Market, located at 947 W Fulton Market.

With five locations across California, The Italian Homemade Company is already known as one of the best Italian restaurants in the state. Now, the owners have applied for a liquor license to bring the concept to Chicago. CEO Mattia Cosmi confirms with What Now Chicago that he hopes to open this new location sometime during Summer 2023, possibly late summer. When this location opens later this year, customers can expect gourmet Italian street food, focusing on Italy’s Marche and Romagna regions.

The Italian Homemade Company has created an authentic menu full of freshly made pasta, gnocchi, and other Italian favorites. Menu items include fettuccine, tagliatelle, pappardelle, gnocchi, and raviolo, with sauce options that include choices of marinara, bolognese, or pesto sauce. The recent liquor license application suggests this restaurant will also serve alcohol, most likely various wines to pair with each plate of pasta.

“Since our dine-in setup will be pretty comfortable at Fulton Market we’ll also serve Italian beer and wine to pair with our pasta and also Italian-themed cocktails like Aperol spritz, Campari spritz, and Negroni sbagliato,” Cosmi tells What Now Chicago. “We will also [have] our signature pasta counter at the entrance where customers can see the pasta being made full-time during operations. [The] kitchen line will also be in plain view with a counter bar where customers can sit and watch their pasta being cooked.”

The company opened its doors in 2014 to bring authentic Italian food to San Francisco Bay. Since its opening, the company has expanded to North Beach, Cow Hollow, Berkeley, Hayes Valley, and Long Beach. This will be the first time the company has expanded beyond California. The restaurant will move into a vacant building between chef Grant Achatz’s Roister and Vital Proteins on the ground level of the 945 W. Fulton Apartments.
