Uncle Jack’s Meat House, which currently has only two locations in Georgia, is planning to expand into several new markets, including Chicago.
Few details have been revealed about the expansions, but the company’s website says not only is the restaurant opening in Chicago but also in Las Vegas, Florida, and North Carolina. The exact opening dates and locations of these restaurants are to be determined. Owner Willie Degel opened Uncle Jack’s Steakhouse in 1996 in honor of his great-uncle and godfather. The restaurant quickly became a huge success and led to a new location and spinoff concepts, including Uncle Jack’s Steak Sandwich Shoppe and Jack’s Shack Organic Eatery.
While most of Degel’s restaurants are/were in New York, Uncle Jack’s Meat House has been reserved for Georgia alone. Whether visiting the Duluth or Peachtree Corners location, customers can expect various sides, salads, and sandwiches, but the real star of the show is the restaurant’s meat selection, as the name suggests. Uncle Jack’s Meat House proudly serves steak burgers with different topping options and high-end steak and lamb chops. Some U.S.D.A. options include the 16oz Wagyu cut for $125 or an $89 24oz 35-day dry-aged rib chop, also known as the Fred Flintstone Longbone.
“From a young age, [Degel] heard stories about the New York steakhouse and speakeasy owned by his late godfather and great-uncle Jack in the 1920s,” according to the company’s website. “Inspired to own his own business one day, he bootstrapped himself from operating a childhood lemonade stand to running multi-newspaper routes, starting a neighborhood handyman service, and then tending bar before opening his first bar and restaurant in 1988 at the age of 20.”
