A fresh wave of excitement is brewing at Columbus’ historic North Market as plans for a major expansion are underway—this time with a bar at the center of it all.

The 15,000-square-foot addition will be located on the east end of the market as part of the forthcoming 32-story Merchant Building. The spotlight of the new space? A North Market-owned bar concept that will serve as the heart of the expansion. Surrounding the bar will be five to seven new vendor stalls, creating a vibrant social and culinary hub for downtown visitors.

Designed by local firm GRA+D Architects and built by Ruscilli Construction, the project aims to blend the charm of North Market’s rich heritage with the needs of today’s Columbus crowd. In addition to the bar and vendor spaces, the update includes a new common area for guests, upgraded restroom facilities, and a second-floor event venue with a view of the outdoor plaza.

Market officials describe the project as a “major investment in community and commerce,” with promises of enhanced experiences for shoppers, more opportunities for small businesses, and a boost to the downtown energy.

With roots dating back to 1876, North Market has long been a staple of the city’s food scene, and this expansion signals a bold step into its next chapter.
