Musicol, Ohio’s longest-operating recording studio and vinyl pressing plant, has entered a new chapter under new ownership.
Greg Hall, owner of Columbus record store Used Kids Records, recently acquired the historic business located at 780 Oakland Park Ave. in North Linden, according to Columbus Business First.
Founded in 1966, Musicol has built a reputation as a one-stop destination where artists can record, mix, master and press vinyl records all under one roof. The company began pressing vinyl in 1971 and remains the longest-operating vinyl pressing plant in Ohio.
Hall, who declined to disclose the purchase price, described the acquisition as an opportunity to preserve one of the state’s most significant music landmarks.
“Musicol isn’t just a studio or pressing plant; it’s a cultural landmark where history and community converge,” Hall said in a statement seen by the publication mentioned above.
The approximately 2,800-square-foot facility currently employs five people and will continue serving musicians and independent artists. Hall said he hopes to build on Musicol’s legacy while welcoming a new generation of creators.
According to a statement announcing the acquisition, Hall said he hopes to preserve Musicol’s legacy while welcoming a new generation of artists and continuing the studio’s role in Ohio’s music community.
Over the decades, Musicol has welcomed numerous artists, including Ric Ocasek, the late frontman of The Cars, who recorded at the studio in the late 1960s before the band was formed.
The acquisition comes as vinyl records continue to experience renewed popularity. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, vinyl sales in the United States have increased for 19 consecutive years, surpassing $1 billion in 2025.
What Now Columbus has reached out to Greg Hall to learn more about his vision for Musicol under its new ownership, including any future plans for the historic recording studio and vinyl pressing plant. This story may be updated as more information becomes available.
