Detroit-based brewery and taproom Atwater has announced the closure of its Grosse Pointe Park location. The brewery plans to host farewell celebrations before its final day of operation this weekend.

Atwater in the Park Set To Close

The brewery began its journey in 1997 in the Rivertown neighborhood to honor the Detroit spirit. Atwater Brewery offers quality craft beers at an affordable price. Over the years of its operation, the brewery has opened multiple locations in Detroit and Michigan.

In a social media announcement, the brewery team shared the heartbreaking closure news of its Park location.

The team behind the brewery noted that Atwater, located at 1175 Lakepointe St, Grosse Pointe Park, is preparing for its final farewell on October 23. In the post, the team did not specify any official reason for its closure.

Following the closure announcement, several fans of the brewery expressed shock and disappointment on social media.

“We have so many fond memories of walking here when we lived in the neighborhood. It felt like a real-life “Cheers” for us,” wrote one customer.

While the Grosse Pointe Park location is saying goodbye, the Atwater taproom will continue to serve the Detroit community with its other location, Atwater Detroit Hustles Harder.

Farewell Celebration Planned

According to a WXYZ Detroit report, the Park location is situated inside a 1930s historical church and featured a traditional German-style beer hall.

Recommended drinks include Dirty Blonde, Vanilla Java Porter, and Detroit City Juice Hazy IPA. Along with craft beer on tap, the menu specifically focuses on beer-friendly pub grub and classic German dishes.

The taproom plans to host a farewell party to celebrate its journey with the community. In the post, they wrote, “Before we close our doors, we’re inviting you to join us for a farewell party to celebrate the memories we’ve made together and the community that made this place special.”

The taproom added a note of appreciation for the staff and their hard work. The team also thanked the community and customers for their support and encouraged them to visit one more time before the closure.
