Meijer will open a new 75,000-square-foot grocery store in Livonia on Aug. 19, expanding its grocery-format footprint in Michigan. The store will join Meijer’s network of 125 supercenters and smaller-format grocery stores across Michigan.

Meijer to Open New Grocery Store in Livonia

The Livonia store will become Meijer’s fourth grocery-format location in Michigan. The announcement follows the opening of a 47,000-square-foot store in Rochester Hills in May. A new Meijer supercenter is currently being built in Plymouth Township. It is expected to open later this year.

The Livonia store will focus on fresh groceries, everyday essentials, and digital shopping services.

Maureen Mitchell is Vice President of the East Michigan Region for Meijer. She said they are excited to open their second Meijer Grocery store in Southeast Michigan this year. “These stores are designed to provide value and convenience to customers, right in the communities where they live and work each day.”

Meijer introduced its grocery-store concept in 2023 with two Southeast Michigan locations. The smaller-format stores feature a streamlined layout while offering groceries, household essentials, and fresh food.

What Shoppers Can Expect Inside

Shoppers will find fresh produce and grocery staples at the store. The Livonia store will feature a full-service bakery, meat, seafood, and deli departments. The store will also include a pharmacy, health and beauty products, pet supplies, floral, greeting cards, and other everyday essentials.

Customers can shop in-store or online using services such as mPerks, Shop & Scan, and Meijer Home Delivery and Pickup.

Meijer’s exclusive private brands include Frederik’s by Meijer, the retailer’s premium food line, and True Goodness. According to Meijer, these brands include products made without more than 100 restricted ingredients.

Meijer is still recruiting team members for the Livonia store. Positions include hourly, part-time, and full-time roles listed on its online careers site.

The opening in Livonia is part of Meijer’s business plan to expand grocery stores in Michigan. Meijer operates more than 500 stores across the Midwest and continues expanding its grocery-format concept in Michigan.

Meijer also gives back to the local community by donating at least 6% of its annual profits. The company is also recognized as a Great Place to Work.
