A store for discounted home equipment may operate in the city in the near future.
The growing chain HomeBuys is set to replace the Big Lots in Monroe at 1575 N Telegraph Road this year. The company already operates a location in Southgate at 14155 Eureka Road. Executive partner for the company Karen Waldmann told What Now Detroit the team does not yet have an opening date.
Along with home supplies like grass rugs and grills, locations sell a wide variety of items including furniture, domestics, seasonal additions like inflatable pools and pet food. The company was founded in 2015 by former Big Lots executives Brady Churches and Jerry Sommers, now operating throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan.
The Monroe News reported yesterday that Frenchtown Charter Township could not confirm if the store is officially opening as the company hasn’t reached out to executives from the township. As of recent social media posts, “Big Lots” signage has been removed, and there is a “Now Hiring” sign out front.
The store is coming to the intersection of Stewart Road and Telegraph Road, next to Fuji Hibachi & Sushi. Aaron’s Rent Your Own washers and dryers business, as well as Harbor Freight are also in the plaza. It is believed the Big Lots closed due to the company filing for bankruptcy protection in 2024.
What Now Detroit has reached out to HomeBuys for additional comment on the location, and more information on the company can be found on their website.
