Acai Brasil is continuing to enlarge its Lone Star State footprint. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Acai Brasil is expected to open within the Riverstone Shopping Center at 18721 University Blvd Ste. 130.
The shopping center sits within the Riverstone neighborhood in Sugar Land. Also referred to as part of the broader retail hub surrounding The Village at Riverstone development, Riverstone Shopping Center is located at the intersection of University Blvd and LJ Pkwy. Suite 130 at this commercial property has historically housed local businesses like Sugar Land Pharmacy & Wellness.
The permit for the new Acai Brasil further details that construction kicked off in mid-August and is slated to wrap up by the end of October this year. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $90,000 construction project, the new Acai Brasil should open by this fall.
“Remodel existing tenant lease space for “Acai Brasil”, a smoothie shop. It is equipped with one restroom and consists of 1,424 sq. ft.,” the permit for the new Acai Brasil location reads.
What Now Houston reached out to Ana Alvares, who was listed on the permit. Unfortunately, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“We are a local business owned by a Brazilian couple deeply passionate for açaí,” the Acai Brasil website reads.
“We couldn’t find in Houston an authentic açaí bowl so we decided to start a business where we would hand craft our bowls to perfection on texture and taste. For that being said we are the pioneers of Brazilian açaí in Houston.”
Açaí Brasil USA was founded in 2016 by Verena Miranda, who moved to the United States at age 17 and noticed a lack of authentic Brazilian-style açaí. The brand was built from the ground up to bridge authentic Brazilian açaí flavors with the preferences of the U.S. market. After five years of researching ingredients and developing recipes tailored to the American consumer, Verena and Misrael Miranda launched the first location in 2016.
The business expanded into a structured franchise model, growing to 19 Acai Brasil locations, 17 of which are franchises. Locations serve traditional açaí bowls, smoothies, detox juices, and authentic Brazilian finger foods.

What Now also reached out to Miranda to find out more about the expansion. But, we did not hear back by the time of this publication.
“It is an amazing feeling watching people try “the real” açaí for the first time and they keep coming back for more everytime,” the Acai Brasil website reads.
“The secrect ingredient is just pure açaí, hard work and love for what we do. In the store you can also find fresh juices, Brazilian finger foods and smoothies.”
Try it out for yourself when the new Acai Brasil location opens within the Riverstone Shopping Center at 18721 University Blvd Ste. 130 this fall.
