MOTW Coffee & Pastries is coming to the Greater Houston region! According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new MOTW coffee shop is expected to open in the Imperial neighborhood in Sugar Land, within the Crown Garden Plaza at 440 Crown Garden Trail.
The permit further details that the MOTW Cafe construction project started in August and is slated to be completed in October of this year. But CEO Saijad Shah shared with What Now Houston that it is likely the new cafe won’t debut until 2027. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $80,000 construction project to create the 1,498-square-foot cafe, MOTW Coffee and Pastries should open by early 2027.
Unfortunately, Shah was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.
At the helm of the MOTW Cafe Sugar Land debut is franchisee Usama Anwar, who was listed on the permit. What Now also reached out to Anwar, but we did not hear back by the time of this publication.

MOTW Coffee and Pastries began as a digital storytelling project on Instagram called “Muslims of the World” in 2014 before opening its first physical café in 2021. Sajjad Shah launched the @muslimsoftheworld Instagram page while attending Butler University to counter rising Islamophobia by sharing honest, everyday stories of ordinary Muslims. The digital page grew past 700,000 followers, turned into a published book in 2018, and evolved into a nonprofit that raised millions for humanitarian causes worldwide.
Sajjad and his wife, Fatimah Shah, opened the first MOTW Coffee & Pastries in Indianapolis, aiming to blend community-building, philanthropy, and a shared love for coffee and traditional Yemeni chai. After self-funding early locations, the brand shifted to a franchise model in 2023, expanding into a nationwide chain with shops across Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia, and New York.
There are now 11 MOTW coffee shops across the United States, with ongoing national expansion plans.
MOTW Coffee and Pastries is anticipated to debut in Sugar Land within the Crown Garden Plaza at 440 Crown Garden Trail early next year.
