Houston’s Chinatown will soon lose a Malaysian dining destination as Sambal Chef prepares to close permanently. The restaurant will close its doors on June 28, 2026, as shared on its Facebook page. The closure brings an end to a five-year journey for the restaurant.

Sambal Chef Bids Farewell to Houston This Month

The owners shared the news in a recent social media announcement. After what they described as careful consideration, the owners decided not to renew the lease.

According to the announcement, the property has been sold and the new owner plans to use the space for a different business. As a result, the owners have decided to close the chapter of Sambal Chef.

Through the post, the owners expressed their gratitude for customers who shared meals with family and friends, and supported the business.

The post cited, “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your loyalty, encouragement, and friendship over the years. The memories we have created together will always hold a special place in our hearts.” The team invited patrons to visit the restaurant before it closes.

Located at 6833 W. Sam Houston Parkway South in Houston’s Chinatown, Sambal Chef specialized in traditional Malaysian cuisine. The restaurant first opened in Pearland in 2021 before relocating to Houston’s Chinatown in 2024.

Diners visited the restaurant for beef rendang, roti canai, sambal fried rice, curry dishes, and sizzling plates. The variety of dishes it offers helped establish a loyal customer base for Sambal Chef among customers in the Houston area seeking authentic Malaysian cuisine.
