Juici Patties is set to bring a taste of Jamaica to the Lone Star State. According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the largest Jamaican patty restaurant chain is planning to open in River Oaks, near the border of Montrose, within Shepherd Square at 2055 Westheimer Road, Suite 100.
The permit further details that construction is slated to start in late September and wrap up in mid-December. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $350,000 construction project, Houston’s first Juici Patties could open by the end of this year or early next year.
At the helm of the opening are the children of the owner, Jukie Chin, Daniel, and Alyssa. What Now Houston reached out to Daniel, but didn’t hear back. Alyssa responded and confirmed the opening, but was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.
“If you’re new to Juici Patties and the delicious, island goodness that is “the Jamaican patty” you’re in for a treat,” the Juici Patties website reads.
“It’s a flaky, golden, handmade pastry filled with traditionally seasoned & savory Jamaican beef or chicken. Baked to Juici perfection!”
Daniel now serves as the CEO, while Alyssa is the Director of the brand. Juici Patties was founded in 1978 when a 16-year-old Jukie baked his first batch of patties in his mother’s kitchen and sold them at the family’s grocery store in Clarendon, Jamaica. By 1980, the official first store opened under the name Juici Beef Patties in May Pen, Clarendon, starting with a tiny team of just Jukie, a baker, and a cashier. In 2001-2002, Juici Patties became the first local fast-food chain to open locations across all 14 Jamaican parishes, later moving its main manufacturing plant to a larger space in Clarendon Park. It was at this time that the brand shortened its name to Juici Patties and underwent major store updates to reflect its modern identity.

“The company’s founder, Jukie Chin, started making our signature Juici Patties in his mother’s kitchen and selling them in his parents’ grocery store. Today, his son, Daniel, leads our Juici Patties American team as we serve up some serious Jamaican flavor to some serious Jamaican food lovers!”
The family-owned company expanded internationally, selling products in the UK, Canada, and the wider Caribbean before making history as the first Jamaican fast-food chain to launch franchise operations in the United States. There are now more than 85 Juici Patties locations, including more than 60 locations in Jamaica and more than 25 locations across the United States.
