Sal e Brasa is bringing the fire to Westheimer Road. According to a recently filed permit, the Brazilian steakhouse’s third Texas opening is expected to open in the Uptown Houston / Galleria area at 6006 Westheimer.

Although the permit further details that construction on the new Sal e Brasa is planned for a September start, according to the Houston Business Journal, the building that was once there has already been gutted, and a “coming soon” sign is now posted on a construction fence surrounding the former eatery.

The space was once home to Chacho’s, which quietly shuttered earlier this year after decades of service.

According to the permit, construction is slated to wrap up in late November. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $1.2 million construction project, the new Sal e Brasa should open before the end of this year.

What Now Houston briefly spoke with Sal e Brasa and Avenida Brazil, a local family-owned steakhouse that’s partnered with the brand, Executive Chef Vanderlei Bernardi. Bernardi confirmed the opening but was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.

“Each Sal e Brasa steakhouse was thoughtfully designed, focusing on the well-being and comfort of the customers. We’re the perfect setting for your business meeting, family gathering, wedding, graduation party, or any celebration in between,” the Sal e Brasa website reads.

“Join us for a culinary adventure that redefines buffet dining, where quality, variety, and presentation come together to create an unforgettable gastronomic experience.”

Sal e Brasa, meaning “Salt and Fire,” originated in the 1980s when four friends from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, combined their passion for churrasco and traditional gaucho hospitality. The chain launched its first location in 1993 in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil.

The brand expanded significantly in Brazil before making its American debut in Texas in spring 2025. There are now 11 Sal e Brasa locations in Brazil and two in Texas.

“Indulge in our rotating chef’s selection of more than 15 superior cuts of meat. Our tableside presentation showcases the finest meats available – from the buttery-soft Picanha and rich Bottom Sirloin to perfectly grilled Lamb and fresh garlic Shrimp,” the Sal e Brasa website reads.

“Our gourmet buffet is more than just a meal; it’s an immersive dining experience that celebrates the art of cuisine. With over 50 distinct offerings, each thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, we invite you to explore, indulge, and create your own perfect plate.”

Sal e Brasa also offers decadent desserts to tickle any fancy.
Try it all out for yourself at the new Sal e Brasa when it opens in the Uptown Houston / Galleria area at 6006 Westheimer later this year.
