Wazobia Kitchen is embarking on a third opening. According to a recently filed Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation permit, the new Wazobia Kitchen is slated to open within the Eldridge-West Oaks superneighborhood at 2609 S Dairy Ashford.
The property is located in West Houston near the busy Westheimer Road intersection. It previously housed Natural Nails & Skin Care, and the plan is to conduct a commercial interior conversion to become a new location for Wazobia Kitchen.
The permit for the new Wazobia Kitchen further details that construction is slated to start by late September and is expected to be completed by the end of the year or early next year. If all goes well with permitting and the estimated $250,000 construction project, the 4,000-square-foot eatery should open by late winter.
What Now Houston briefly spoke with Wazobia Kitchen District Manager Kemi Ariyo, who confirmed the opening. Unfortunately, Ariyo was unable to share further details by the time of this publication.
“Experience the rich flavors of Nigeria, Ghana, and beyond with fresh ingredients and traditional recipes passed down through generations,” the Wazobia Kitchen website reads.
“We bring you authentic African cuisine with a modern touch, preserving traditional flavors while ensuring the highest quality.”

Wazobia Kitchen and its sibling, Wazobia African Market, began in 2013 when founder Tunde Fasina opened a small African grocery store in Houston. Fasina started the business with a vision to bring African goods under one roof. He opened a small shop in Houston to supply local African food products and groceries. The business grew into a massive African supermarket despite early challenges with money and funding. A kitchen was added to serve fresh, authentic West African meals like Jollof rice, fufu, and goat stew. The business then expanded to multiple spots in Houston.
There are now two locations, one on Beechnut Street and another on Westheimer Road. Both locations have both an African market and a restaurant.
What Now also reached out to Fasina to find out more. The company’s project manager, Koko Anderson, responded with further details and has more to share shortly.
Wazobia Kitchen is anticipated to open within the Eldridge-West Oaks superneighborhood at 2609 S Dairy Ashford later this year or early next year.
