Journeys Kidz in the Woodlands Mall is due for an upgrade, well, according to a recently filed permit. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Architectural Barriers Project Details Page shows that Journeys Kidz at the Woodlands Mall, 1201 Lake Woodlands Drive, Space #2130, is about to undergo some pretty hefty changes.
The permit details that the estimated $336,800 construction project on the Journeys Kidz shop in the Woodland Malls is expected to start a little after mid-August and is slated to wrap up towards the end of September. If all goes well with permitting and renovations to the 2,130-square-foot space, Journeys Kidz at Woodland Mall should be fully renovated by this fall.
No word just yet on whether the store will close its doors during the construction project. Though the permit does not detail exactly what will be done to the kids’ shoe store, we suspect that, with a hefty ticket price of more than $350,000, the store will likely shutter for renovations.
What Now Houston reached out to Genesco‘s Chief Operating Officer for the Journeys Group, Rob Taylor, and the CEO of Journey Global Retail Group, Andy Gray, but did not hear back by the time of this publication.
Launched in 2001, Journeys Kidz is a dedicated youth footwear retailer owned by Genesco, offering “big kid shoes in little kid sizes.” Targeting kids ages 5 to 12, it provides a fun, energetic, and highly scannable in-store experience tailored for families.
But, really, Journeys got its start in 1986. When the parent company opened the first teen-focused Journeys store in Nashville, Tennessee. The brand continued to grow after that. There are now more than 200 Journeys Kidz locations nationwide, with 170 standalone stores in the US. Of those stores, 25 to 30 actively serve Texas, with just a handful in Houston. The renovations coming to the Woodlands Mall location are an exciting new development.
Journey Kidz in the Woodlands Mall at 1201 Lake Woodlands Drive, Space #2130, will undergo those renovations from summer to fall. Check back with us to find out if the store will indeed close its doors during the construction project.
