A longtime Jacksonville building supply business is getting a fresh start under new ownership, with Hunt Lumber & Supply undergoing a major update in the Rail Yard District.

The business is located at 118 Myrtle Ave. N. According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the business is now owned by Corey Hunt, who took over the operation this year.

According to the media outlet, Hunt has been part of the business for decades, having worked at the southwest corner of Kings Road and Myrtle Avenue N. since 1998. His ownership marks the latest chapter for a property that has served Jacksonville’s building and hardware needs for more than a century.

The business traces its roots to Paschal Brothers, which opened on the eastern side of the property in 1924. The company sold hardware and building supplies to homeowners, contractors and commercial customers.

Shaw Hardware and Lumber later occupied the western side of the property, beginning in 1971. The two businesses operated alongside each other until Paschal acquired Shaw in 2013 and combined the operations.

Following the transition in ownership, Hunt Lumber & Supply is now working through a series of improvements to both the store and lumber yard. The roughly 7,000-square-foot store is being renovated with new office space and updated product displays, while the 32,000-square-foot lumber yard is also being repaved.
