Jessie Nelson, a Ventura native and mother of four, moved to the Santa Rosa Valley with her family several years ago and has been watching the High Street Depot development in Moorpark take shape. When the mixed-use development was completed, Nelson became interested in becoming an owner in the development.
In May, Nelson began to craft her forthcoming boutique concept, Stable Society Boutique. Now, she is preparing to take the plunge into brick-and-mortar entrepreneurship in a 927-square-foot retail space at High Street Depot. Nelson told What Now Los Angeles that she launched the business online on July 2 and that she is targeting an October opening in the space.
“I love to shop, I love fashion and I always have people reach out to me on social media about what I’m wearing and where I get stuff, so I decided to create Stable Society,” Nelson said.
Stable Society’s name is a reflection of the Western elements present in Nelson’s Santa Rosa Valley community, as well as a reference to Nelson’s hope that her boutique is a stable, calming place for both customers and herself.
“Being a mom of four, I lose myself at times, so I think finding something for myself was really important and something to give my kids down the road,” Nelson said.
The space, which features an iron garage door opening, will serve as a boutique that caters to the entire family, with products for women, men and children. Expect to see apparel as well as home goods such as candles, blankets and perfume. Nelson plans to carry products from a combination of larger brands and local brands and artists.
Right now, Nelson is focused on preparing the High Street space for opening and making it as successful as possible. Eventually, she could see expanding to a coastal space such as in Huntington or Newport Beach.
“If I had a message with my whole business and brand, I would just say for the stay-at-home moms that lose themselves to just being a mom, go after something that makes them happy, too,” Nelson said. “I think that’s one of my main messages with my brand.”
In addition to Stable Society Boutique, the High Street area will receive Japanese-inspired jazz lounge Samuzora later this year.
