Local candy shop Newberry Candy will be opening its second location later this summer. The decade-old business will open a new location at The Oaks. At the shopping center, the new store will be located between Lovisa and Game Lab and across from Joystick Arcades.
Owner John Newberry told What Now Los Angeles that he wanted to expand to a more spacious location with a chance to pull in more customers since the original location is in an area with less foot traffic.
“Over the years, it’s grown and become very popular and people go to that specific strip mall for us. I’ve always wanted to try a high foot traffic location,” Newberry said. “The Oaks seemed like a good fit because a lot of people do know us, but a lot of people still surprisingly do not.”
Newberry Candy’s existing location is 700 square feet, and the new store will be about double that footprint, allowing for growth. The forthcoming store will be designed to have an atmosphere like a grandmother’s kitchen or dining room. To provide that shopping experience, the point-of-sale counter will be a kitchen island and there will also be a dining room table on the sales floor with displays on it.
“There’s actual furniture, like grandma’s dining room would have,” Newberry said. “When you’re standing at the counter, you’re basically standing at grandma’s kitchen counter. That’s going to be the feel.”
Newberry Candy offers handcrafted candy including English Toffee, fudge, caramel apples, chocolate-covered treats, brittles, marshmallows and gift baskets.
