A proposed new Memphis establishment is working on bringing a touch of whimsy and a hint of mischief to the local nightlife. Lou’s Speakeasy has submitted a beer permit application, and while there is not yet a great deal of information available about the concept, it could become a great attraction for Main Street, given the current popularity of speakeasy culture.

According to the City of Memphis Alcohol Commission’s meeting agenda for October 7, Lou’s Speakeasy has “Applied to Sell Beer for “ON” Premise Consumption” for 525 South Main Street.

Outside of the name, few details are available about Lou’s Speakeasy. The beer permit application on file with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development offers a small glimpse of what the concept will have in store. The form describes the areas set to be covered by the permit as: “Interior premises at 525 S. Main Street, including the Lou’s Speakeasy lounge, customer seating, food-service and beverage-service areas, together with the adjoining outdoor patio area.” The paperwork additionally assures future customers that they will be able to enjoy a bite on their night out-Lou’s Speakeasy will be serving food.
