Memphis area athletes are getting a new home for the paraphernalia necessary to facilitate their pursuits. Academy Sports + Outdoors is opening a new location in Millington, and it will be ready to welcome customers next month, reports Daily Memphian.
The sporting goods store is bringing its wares to 8400 Wilkinsville Road. A commercial new construction permit previously filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development shows that Academy Sports + Outdoors will be occupying a sprawling 53,969 square foot building with an occupant load of 893.
The store has not set a specific date for its upcoming Millington location; it is projected to open at some point in October. The Academy Sports + Outdoors website has the shop listed only as “coming soon”.
Founded in San Antonio in 1938, the chain offers an array of sporting goods for every customer. The website provides this insight into the brand’s drive: “Academy’s mission is to provide ‘Fun for All’ and Academy fulfills this mission with a localized merchandising strategy and value proposition that strongly connects with a broad range of consumers.
