Costco is one step closer to bringing its first Treasure Coast warehouse to Port St. Lucie following the city’s approval of a land sale for a proposed retail store and gas station in Southern Grove. Real Estate developer, Kolter Homes posted the news on its website. Construction and opening dates have not yet been announced, the proposed store has generated excitement among Treasure Coast residents, many of whom have long traveled to Palm Beach County for the nearest Costco.
The planned 170,000-square-foot warehouse will be built on about 22 acres east of Southwest Village Parkway and south of Southwest Marshall Parkway. The project will be located adjacent to Costco’s 1.87-million-square-foot cold and dry storage depot, creating a major retail hub for the membership warehouse giant.
Founded in 1983 by James Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman, Costco has grown into one of the world’s largest retailers, operating more than 900 warehouses across 14 countries. The company is known for its warehouse-club model, offering members discounted groceries, electronics, home goods, pharmacy services, fuel and travel benefits.
