Nashville Turkish Restaurant Cited for Multiple Violations During Health Inspection

The Tennessee Department of Health conducted a routine health inspection at Edessa Restaurant on May 6. According to the inspection report, the restaurant received a low score of 74.

The restaurant was cited for multiple health and safety violations, including a lack of supplies in the handwashing sink, bottles without labels, and food debris buildup.

Edessa Restaurant serves Kurdish and Turkish restaurant. According to the inspection report, inspectors noted the following violations:

  • The kitchen handwashing sink had no paper towels. The staff was instructed to restock paper towels during the inspection.
  • Raw beef skewers were stored in a reach-in cooler above a yogurt container. The plastic-wrap-covered raw beef skewers were dripping blood onto a container of ready-to-eat yogurt.
  • The yogurt was discarded, and the report advised proper vertical food storage practices.
  • Two spray bottles containing blue liquid were not properly labeled at the server station. The bottles were labeled during the inspection.

  • The report noted food cooling in large pots without temperature monitoring. The report advised the restaurant to train the staff on safe cooling procedures.
  • An aluminum container was stored inside the ice machine. Cooking equipment on the cookline had excessive food debris buildup.
  • The floors in the walk-in cooler were damaged, and grease buildup was found underneath the kitchen equipment on the cookline.
  • The restaurant was using cardboard to line the floors inside the walk-in cooler. The ceiling of the kitchen and prep area was severely damaged and stained.
  • The most recent health inspection report was also not posted during the inspection.

Following the routine inspection, the restaurant was issued a low score of 74 for its unsanitary conditions. The restaurant must correct the violations before a follow-up inspection.
