Aziz “A.J.” Ashurov is transforming a residential building on the border of Rutledge Hill and Rolling Mill Hill into an Italian restaurant called Mona.

According to documents submitted to the city, Ashurov is turning the space into a pizza restaurant in the 1,800 square-foot-space. A floor plan attached to his proposal features a bar and eight tables with seating for over 30 people.

A Nashville Post article indicates that Ashurov has previous experience owning (and selling) restaurant spaces. He and his brother Ravshan Ashurov sold the building that once housed Back Alley Diner. In addition to his development of new restaurants, Ashurov also works as a real estate broker.

What Now Nashville was not immediately able to reach Ashurov for a comment.

Ashurov told Nashville Post that while he will own the restaurant, he will have someone else on the ground leading day-to-day operations. Mona is expected to be operational in two months’ time.
