Local investor and restaurateur Cornelius Quarels is building out a coffee shop at 141 6th St. in downtown Baton Rouge, according to a permit filing with East Baton Rouge Parish. The filing is for minor renovations to the 1,200-sqaure-foot building, including painting, adding a handicap ramp, and replacing a fence. Quarels confirmed to What Now New Orleans that the café will be called Vinyl on 6th but has not yet provided additional information.
Quarels, a prominent local developer in Baton Rouge, opened a lounge and rooftop bar called Firehaus in 2023. He also owns another rooftop bar in the city called The Main Lobby. Both businesses are known for their elevated, lively atmospheres.
