Chef Alon Shaya and his partner Emily Shaya might be known for restaurant concepts serving refined, elevated Mediterranean fare, but their upcoming restaurant, which is being planned for Lakeview, will offer all-day counter service with a wide range of grab-and-go options.

When the restaurant called Safta’s Table opens at 129 Allen Touissant Blvd. later this year, it will serve Mediterranean-style dishes for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. According to a press release, the restaurant will focus on a casual dining experience and quick service takeout. Those familiar with the Shayas’ restaurant Saba should expect similar flavors and even a few crossover dishes. In addition to coffee and soft drinks, Safta’s Table will have a full bar with beer, wine, and cocktails.

In the press release announcing the new restaurant, Alon Shaya noted that Safta is the Hebrew word for ‘grandmother.’

“Safta’s Table is designed to capture the warmth and comfort of dining at your grandmother’s house,” he said. “It felt only natural to bring this counter-service, all-day cafe to Lakeview, a neighborhood brimming with families of all ages.”
