Despite opening in the summer of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, Vals restaurant and bar on Freret Street has built up a loyal clientele. Now, the Uptown taqueria is planning a second location in Baton Rouge. The new location at 7242 Perkins Rd. is currently undergoing a permitting process before it can undergo renovations, which will transform the former Rock Paper Taco restaurant. According to Daily Report, an opening date has not been set.

Vals is one of many successful restaurant concepts created by the award-winning CureCo hospitality group. In addition to tacos and a tequila-focused bar program, Vals also has a sizeable “Not Tacos” section of its menu and drinks made with lesser-known agave spirits Lechuguilla and Bacanora.
