The team behind hip, buzzy spots like Café Maud and Odd Sister is preparing to open a dual concept in Chelsea that will combine an all-day cafe and an underground speakeasy. Set to open in June at 161 8th Ave., Georgie’s from Host Restaurants will be a neighborhood cafe offering elevated coffee and café fare from chef Alessandro Urbisci. The opening breakfast and brunch menu will include avocado toast, breakfast burritos, fried chicken sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. In the evening, Georgie’s will transition into the dinner menu and lean into its cocktail program. The all-day cafe will have seating for 70 guests inside and seating for 60 guests on a sidewalk cafe.
Underneath the café, a speakeasy-style lounge called Downstairs at Georgie’s will have a disco vibe, an elevated cocktail program, craft beer selection highlighting local breweries, and a menu of small plates. The lounge will be open for happy hour, and closing hours are set for 2 a.m. during the week, 3 a.m. on weekends.
