A New York coffee roaster is continuing its expansion with another neighborhood outpost.

Coffee Project New York, co-founded by Chi Sum Ngai and Kaleena Teoh, is opening at 1219 First Ave. near East 66th Street on the Upper East Side, according to NewOpeningsNYC Instagram page.

Ngai and Teoh opened Coffee Project New York’s flagship East Village café in 2015 after leaving their jobs to pursue coffee full time. The passion project has since grown into a New York coffee brand with cafés in Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, the Financial District, Tribeca, Brooklyn and Queens.

The café is known for its classic coffee, tea and espresso drinks, as well as tasting flights. Among its signature offerings are the “deconstructed latte,” served with each component separately, and the “nitro flight,” which showcases nitro coffee prepared in different styles.

Coffee Project New York prioritizes responsibly sourced coffee. The team roasts its beans in-house using separate machines for large-scale production, sample testing and small batches of competition-quality coffee.

“Our coffees are carefully selected to reflect the ethos of contributing to one’s community. Many are sourced from cooperatives and family farms that focus on improving work and living conditions for farm workers,” the website reads.

To complement its drinks, the café serves breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, granola, overnight oats and a mochi ube waffle topped with bananas, berries, house-made coconut whipped cream and sugar.

An opening date has not been announced, but the team recently replied to an Instagram comment, stating the space is currently being built out.
