The team behind Hutch + Waldo, the Upper East Side coffee shop, at 247 East 81st Street, is bringing a new food and beverage concept to Gramercy Park.
A lease has been secured, at 77 Irving Place, but it won’t be another location of the Australian-inspired coffee shop, a rep for the company told What Now New York in an email. Leasing comp data had the deal filed under the name “Hutch + Waldo.”
“We are not opening up another location for Hutch + Waldo,” the rep said. “The group will be doing some new retail stores downtown. They have some sites but [are] still undecided of the concepts we will be launching.”
The rep did not specify the other sites secured, nor would they comment further on the plans, but one thing is certain: the incoming concept “cannot be vented or compete” with its neighbors, according to a for-lease listing.
The yet-to-be-disclosed concept is set to open in space formerly occupied by Irving Cleaners. Rent for the 545 square-foot space is $9,000 per month, according to the listing. It sits adjacent to Friend Of A Farmer, a restaurant that bills itself as “the pioneers in the Farm-to-Table Movement.”
