New Hungarian-Inspired Destination Coming to Upper East Side

A taste of Hungarian culture is coming to the Upper East Side.

The Tulipán Foundation will open its nearly 6,000-square-foot headquarters in a restored 1890s townhouse, creating a new hub for sharing Hungarian traditions and cuisine with the community.

The ground floor will house a Hungarian-inspired restaurant offering “more than just a meal.” While details remain limited, guests can expect traditional Hungarian dishes and curated cocktails, with the team recently applying for a liquor license.

The restaurant’s interior will feature a Hungarian-inspired gallery, with artwork woven into the design.

The second floor will highlight a marketplace showcasing work from Hungarian designers and artisans, giving visitors an opportunity to experience Hungary’s artistic legacy.

The townhouse’s upper levels will host artist and chef-in-residence programs, providing creators with a place to live and work in New York City.

Over the past five years, the Tulipán Foundation, established in memory of Réka Darida, has supported artists in the U.S. and Hungary, hosted immersive events and built a vibrant community centered on Hungarian heritage.

The team plans to open in spring 2027.
