Grab a glass of wine and get ready to get crafty as a new tie-dye experience comes to Manhattan.

Tipsy Tie Dye will open at 191 Avenue A at E. 12th St. in the East Village, joining the brand’s flagship locations in Hoboken and the American Dream mall. The new studio will be the first franchise-owned location, led by Amanda Rust.

“I went to Tipsy Tie Dye in Hoboken about three and a half years ago with a friend. We were meeting half way for lunch and literally just walked past it and were like, ‘That seems interesting.’ We did the activity, got a bottle of wine and immediately I was like, ‘This would do so good in Manhattan,’” Rust told Whatnow New York City.

Brother-and-sister duo Kevin and Katie Tague founded the brand in 2018, blending her decade of experience in fashion with his background in chemistry.

“We were teaching designers and production teams dye science, garment finishing and washes. We were using tie dye to explain. One day we just looked at each other and went, ‘Why are we not extending the joy of this? Why don’t we add booze?’” Katie told Whatnow New York City.

The duo began hosting a series of pop-up events in Hoboken and Jersey City before deciding to put down permanent roots.

Inside each location, guests can tie-dye everything from sweatshirts, sweatpants and hoodies to T-shirts, bucket hats, bags and even dog sweaters, with each item priced differently. They can also bring in their own garments for a dye fee.

“It’s wonderful for date nights, nights out with friends, birthdays of all ages—it’s family friendly during the day,” Katie said.

The new East Village location will combine elements from the brand’s existing flagship locations.

“It takes that same intimate studio feeling of Hoboken but gives customers a bigger footprint,” Katie said.

Rust added, “It’s an awesome lot. It’s a really big space. It’s going to have incredible visibility.”

The space will feature a bar setup with stools, offering tavern wine by the glass or bottle, along with two beers on tap.

Guests are encouraged to make reservations for their groups, but walk-ins are welcome as well.

As a young entrepreneur, Rust looks forward to leading the brand’s expansion and growth in the Big Apple.

“I believe in the concept. I believe in the power of creativity and bringing people together. I think it’s really more about the experience and people coming to do something fun,” she said.

Tipsy Tie Dye plans to debut in late fall or early winter. Visit the website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
