A third outpost of Malaysia-based brand Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart is coming to the East Village this fall, managing partner Mark Zhang confirms.
The cheese pastry shop first launched in Malaysia in 2016, offering the traditional Japanese dessert that hails from the coastal city of Hokkaido. It quickly gained popularity and spread throughout the Asia-Pacific before coming to the U.S. in 2021. New York City is home to its first U.S. outpost, which is located at 315 5th Avenue in Koreatown. It also has a second city outpost at The Shops at Atlas Park in Glendale, which is only open on weekends, as well as locations in California. Zhang says five more outposts are slated to open in the city within the next two to three years.
The cheese pastry can be made hot, chilled or frozen. The dessert has a crunchy shortcrust that is stuffed with a fluffy cheese filling. The chain offers unique flavors including but not limited to matcha, strawberry, salted caramel, chocolate and mango.
