TAQ, an Ann Arbor-based “upscale taco” restaurant, is opening up its second outpost out of state later this fall.

TAQ will take over the space formerly occupied by Lekka Burger at 81 Warren Street in Tribeca. Cynthia Gagalis-Messmore and her husband Mark first opened up their concept in Ann Arbor six years ago. Despite being of Greek origin, the family wanted to bring an “upscale” and “gourmet” fusion taco concept to the neighborhood. Their unique offerings range from Greek tacos to Italian tacos, Thai tacos and more, using staple ingredients of those countries to create their unique concept. There are chicken, beef, seafood and vegetarian options available. Its hours are slated to be from noon to 10 pm.

“It’s a life-long dream to open a restaurant here,” the husband told Tribeca Citizen.

He added that their food is: “Not your typical street taco.”
