Research by What Now New York has revealed plans for a modern Greek restaurant in the Upper East Side at 1007 Lexington Ave., between 72nd Street and 73rd Street. A permit filing with Community Board 8 indicates that Kalo Lexington LLC is seeking a full liquor license for a first-floor restaurant. Additionally, there is an official website for Kalo NYC with headline-font text that says: “Modern Greek Cuisine Coming Soon”. The space used to be home to Maria Mulata, a Colombian restaurant. What Now New York reached out for more information, but ownership declined an interview.

While there are some Mediterranean options in the Upper East Side, including some fast casual spots, there isn’t a dedicated sit-down Greek restaurant in the neighborhood where Kalo NYC is being planned. Nearby spots tend to lean more toward Turkish fare than Greek cuisine.
