The powerhouse team behind West Village staples Fish Cheeks and Bangkok Supper Club is poised to flex some serious muscle at a new Southeast Asian concept to open at 13 E 1st St. in the East Village. Led by Jenn Saesue and acclaimed mixologist Suwincha “Chacha” Singsuwan, the team behind the upcoming spot has a well-established reputation for excellence, which was cemented when Singsuwan received the 2024 Michelin Guide New York Exceptional Cocktails Award for her inventive beverage program at Bangkok Supper Club. This latest venture, filed under Chacha’s Bar LLC, marks a significant new chapter for the team as they take over the sprawling space that previously housed the Indian gastropub Baar Baar.

Operating as a Southeast Asian cocktail bar and restaurant, the new concept will seemingly blend Michelin-pedigree drinks with refined, technique-driven plates. A sample menu submitted to Community Board 3 reveals a sophisticated selection including toasted brioche topped with uni and lardo, tuna belly crudo, and fried chicken served on milk bread with Sriracha chili mayonnaise. Set to open daily from noon until 2 a.m., it can accommodate 94 guests and will feature two six-seat bars on the ground floor. What Now New York has reached out for more information.
