An intimate sushi restaurant is expanding to Hell’s Kitchen.
Suki Desu, meaning “I love” in Japanese, will open at 709 9th Ave., between W. 48th and 49th streets, in the former Manhattan Eyeworks space, business filings report.
The new spot will join the restaurant’s existing locations on the Upper East Side and in Chelsea. The team also has a sister concept, Kuriya, in the works, which will focus on soba.
“The inspiration behind creating this restaurant was the desire to make rice bowls and authentic Japanese flavors accessible to everyone,” the website reads.
The menu features Japanese-inspired dishes, including tuna carpaccio, salmon and tuna tartare, wakame salad and unagi tamagoyaki. Entrées come in the form of rice bowls, with options featuring fresh salmon, tuna, crab and ikura, or salmon roe. Other options include cooked seafood and unadon with eel, shredded egg, cucumber and ikura.
Diners can enjoy the “Heavenly Rice Bowl” two ways, first by mixing the toppings with rice and the chef’s special sauce, then adding dashi, or broth, halfway through the bowl.
The interior will feature nine tables with 18 seats, along with a nine-seat sushi counter and bar serving beer and sake.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, but Suki Desu’s Instagram page reads “Coming soon.” Once open, the restaurant will operate daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
