Filipino comfort food restaurant Tradisyon has outgrown its space at 790 Ninth Avenue. The restaurant shared on its Instagram in March that it would close on March 24 at the Hell’s Kitchen location.

“Tradisyon will officially close its doors at 790 9th Ave. This isn’t goodbye, we’re just prepping for something BIG!” the announcement stated.

Now, the team is preparing to open at a larger location in Chelsea, at 156 Ninth Avenue, with plans to open the second week of June, according to W42ST. Meanwhile, the team has collaborated with Chef Raymond Kiang to bring a new Singaporean spot, Uncle Ray’s Chicken Rice, to the old Tradisyon space.

Joey Chanco, Bianca Vicente and Anton Dayrit teamed up during 2020 to open Tradisyon, serving items like pork adobo, bokchoy and other Filipino dishes. Dayrit formerly worked at Jean-Georges, Tabla, ABC Kitchen, ABC Cocina and Mission Chinese, and he founded Asian bowl chain Mighty Bowl. He then opened The Hive with Vicente in Williamsburg.

“Once again, it was time to create and this would be all about the homeland: The Philippines’ traditional dishes. With a shared mission of promoting the country’s culture and amazing yet still widely obscure cuisine, they were soon joined by Joey who worked with the Philippines’ Department of Tourism here in New York,” the Tradisyon website states. “This became the ideal team fueled not only by technical skill in the kitchen but by this passion for their country and its food.”

They also are one of the vendors at Urban Hawker, the only Singapore-inspired food hall in New York City.
