Smoothie King is continuing its Northeast expansion with a new location set to open in Penfield next month. The Dallas-based brand plans to open at 2150 Fairport Nine Mile Point Road on July 18.
Smoothie King to Open First Penfield Location
Smoothie King has expanded across the Northeast and Midwest by 85% over the past five years. The chain grew from 193 locations in 2020 to approximately 358 stores today. As part of that growth, the company is preparing to open its first location in Penfield, New York.
The new Smoothie King will be located between Panera Bread and Burger King. It is part of a 3-unit deal for the area.
The location will be owned and operated by Mohammed Waqas Akram. He is a native of New York and an experienced retail business owner and commercial real estate developer.
His passion for health and nutrition led him to join the Smoothie King system. Akram said he hopes to expand access to health-focused menu options in Western New York.
He added, “We’re launching with a fantastic grand opening party on July 18 and keeping the energy going the following weekend to honor America’s landmark 250th birthday. This is just the first step for us—we are already actively looking at sites in Henrietta and Greece to make healthy, goal-oriented options accessible to the entire Rochester community.”
New York has become an increasingly important market for Smoothie King. The number of stores has increased by over twofold in the last five years, from 15 in 2020 to 32 currently. The company states that there are more opportunities for it to grow throughout the state.
Grand Opening Festivities and Menu Highlights
The Penfield location’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for July 18. The celebration will begin at 11 a.m. with a free 20-oz smoothie for the first 500 guests in line. The event will also feature free merchandise giveaways throughout the day.
The celebration continues through the following weekend. The store will also participate in celebrations surrounding the nation’s 250th anniversary. The first 250 customers to arrive on July 25 and July 26 will each get a free 20-oz smoothie.
Smoothie King also offers smoothie bowls. A growing selection of food items is available through its Power Eats Menu. Customers can customize beverages with add-ins designed to support energy, immunity, and other wellness goals.
The opening adds another location to Smoothie King’s growing New York presence and introduces the brand to Penfield for the first time.
