A beloved health-conscious cafe, Rockin’ Roots in Hillsdale, is preparing to close its doors. Owner Michael Merida announced the closure on social media.
Rockin’ Roots to Close After Seven Years
Founded by executive chef Michael Merida, Rockin’ Roots is a café serving coffee, juices, smoothies and more. Located at 434 Hillsdale Avenue, the café will serve its final day September 26, 2026.
The café announced the closure in a social media post. The team wrote, “After 7 beautiful years in Hillsdale, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors at Rockin’ Roots.”
The team thanked the community and customers for their support and added, “We will miss Rockin’ Roots and our customers so very much, but it is not goodbye. We still live in the community and hope to see you.”

About the Restaurant
Operated by Michael and Diana Merida, the cafe was opened to provide nutritious, chef-created clean food at an affordable price to the neighborhood. The cafe is well known for serving cold-pressed juices, protein bowls, and organic fresh coffee.
According to a Northern Valley Press report, Merida beat celebrity chef Bobby Flay on his own show, “Beat Bobby Flay,” in 2020. This victory made Michael a global name.
Following the closure announcement, several customers expressed their disappointment on social media. One customer commented, “So, so sad! The whole community will mourn! Your place is always bustling. Our little corner of Hillsdale will be much quieter with you guys closed.”
Another regular customer shared, “Oh no!! Love your coffee, smoothies, juices, and avocado toast!!!! The service is always so great!! All the best to you!!”
In the post, the cafe team invited the community to visit Rockin’ Roots one more time. With the closure of Rockin’ Roots, the Hillsdale community is losing a healthy and beloved coffee spot.
