Known for his work as a local DJ and entertainer, Kenny Jackson (also known as DJ Lil Ken), is preparing to debut LJ’s Lounge, a soul food restaurant and entertainment venue inspired by his mother and designed to bring a new cultural experience to Orange County. The concept is expected to officially open in July, at The Triangule Square on 1870 Harbor Blvd, Suite L2-217, Kenny told What Now.
“LJ’s Lounge is meant to be like a mini House of Blues,” Kenny said. “It’s like coming to dinner and my mom or my grandmother or any Black mother or grandmother. That is the cuisine you’re going to experience.”
According to him, the restaurant was planned as a response to what he sees as a lack of cultural diversity in Orange County’s dining scene.
“There’s a great Mexican restaurant, a great Thai place, maybe Chinese or Indian food,” he said. “But there was not a place where you could go enjoy soul food and a soul food experience, and more reflect Black culture. So that was the vision.”
The owner’s ties to entertainment stretch back decades. Before retiring, he was a local DJ and radio personality, experiences that are now shaping the atmosphere of the restaurant.
“I wanted my own place,” Kenny said. “I got back into music and entertainment and hospitality, and I wanted something that reflected the diversity (or lack thereof) in Orange County.”
Additional details, including menus and social media campaigns, will be shared on social media as the opening approaches. In the meantime, the restaurant is conducting soft-opening activities.
